Biography of Speaker - Joseph M. Slye

Joe Slye has been an expert Federal public relations professional in Washington, D.C. for over 30 years. As a media relations expert, speech writer and public speaking coach for Cabinet and Sub-Cabinet officials, he has helped hundreds of Federal executives look and sound their best.

Joe served as a press officer and media advance manager for seven U. S. Secretaries of Commerce. While there he developed a government-wide program of media interview and public speaking training. He has served as Director of Public Affairs at several other Federal agencies including the National Endowment for the Arts, the Urban Mass Transportation Administration, the U.S. General Services Administration and the Federal Housing Finance Board. He also served in the White House for two Administrations.

Joe holds a master's degree in public relations from the American University. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia, and is frequently invited to conferences and meetings as a guest speaker and trainer. He is a widely respected communicator, and serves on a number of committees and teams to develop communications strategies for executives. He has completed programs at the Creative Problem Solving Institute and the International Association of Facilitators. For the past ten years, he has served as an executive consultant with the Federal Consulting Group, helping senior executives in the federal government create a government Americans want. A native Washingtonian, he lives in Alexandria, Virginia.
