Biography of Speaker - Ian Noble
The World Bank

Ian Noble is the leader of the Climate Change Team at the World Bank with particular responsibility for the Bank’s activities in adaptation to climate change. He also works with the Carbon Finance Unit on the BioCarbon Fund. Before coming to the Bank in 2002 he was Professor of Global Change Research at the Australian National University. He has been active in the IPCC process, which prepares scientific assessments relevant to climate policy, and in international cooperative research on climate change as part of the IGBP (International Geosphere Biosphere Program). In Australia he participated in the public and policy debate over responses to climate change and served as a Commissioner in an inquiry into the future of the Australian forests and forest industries. Ian Noble is an ecologist by training with research interests covering animal behaviour, vegetation and biodiversity management, ecosystem modeling, expert systems and the science-policy interface. In 1999 he was elected as Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
